An estimation of lithium resources and potentials of Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada

Abstract

Rock types of Archean, Aphebian, Helikian, and Phanerozioc age are present in northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Of these, Archean rocks provide best potential hosts for pegmatite lithium deposits, and contain 194,470 tonnes of demonstrated lithium metal. Aphebian pegmatitic rocks host approximately 43,190 tonnes of demonstrated lithium metal, and Helikian rocks are apparently void of deposits. Limited information on brines and Paleozoic oilfield waters suggest that these rocks may contain large but low grade deposits.
