Abstract

In order to promote market-oriented trading of new energy, this paper develops a multi-stage day-ahead clearing mechanism for the electricity spot market (ESM) that accounts for energy quality in coupled electricity and carbon markets. The method starts with an advantages and downsides analysis of both new energy units and traditional power units, and a framework for connecting the ESM and the carbon trading market (CTM) was devised. Then, to maintain equilibrium in the bidding process between new energy units and traditional energy units, a market incentive factor based on the energy quality was proposed. Additionally, a multi-stage clearing mechanism was created for the market for electricity-carbon coupling. The pre-clearing and formal clearing were added to the multi-stage clearing concept. Minimizing generation cost is the pre-clearing's main goal. And minimizing comprehensive cost is the goal of formal clearing, which includes both generation cost and carbon trading cost. Ultimately, research on simulation was carried out using the improved IEEE-30 node system. The framework can enhance the power generation of new energy units by 29.70 %, and decrease carbon emissions by 26.15 %. The increase in carbon trading costs and new energy unit quotations will lead to an increase in power generation costs.
