Abstract

The article presents the experimental study of steam gasification of decarbonized coals. The results were compared with the data of the first part of the study, performed with raw coals. Coal decarbonization was carried out in a muffle furnace in air at a temperature of 600 °C for 180 s. This pretreatment reproduces the conditions of the air gasification of raw materials in the first chamber of two-stage gas generators. Non- and quasi-steady modes of steam gasification were studied with varying superheated steam temperature and its flow rate. When comparing steam gasification of raw and decarbonized coals, it was found that the difference in cold gas efficiency reached 18 % for high-rank coal and 10 % for low-rank coal. Exergy efficiency was quite low and did not exceed 4.7 % for low-rank coals. The disadvantage of steam gasification of decarbonized materials is the increased yield of CO2, reaching 31 % in the volume of the produced gas mixture. Conceptual technological solutions for steam gasification of coals are proposed to minimize this disadvantage.
