Abstract

Public data openness has become a key initiative for advancing information disclosure in the digital era. Utilizing data from the Chinese Family Panel Studies (CFPS) spanning 2010 to 2020, this paper employs a staggered difference-in-differences (DID) approach to examine its impact on household income. The results demonstrate that public data openness significantly increases household income. Mechanism analysis suggests that the effect operates primarily through improved information disclosure as households with weaker information reception capacities and those located in cities with stronger information transmission infrastructure benefit disproportionately. Beyond its income effects, we further show that public data openness reduces income inequality and improves household welfare by stimulating higher consumption. These findings provide novel micro-level evidence on the economic impacts of public data openness and offer significant policy implications for fostering inclusive growth in the digital era.
