Abstract

Gender-based violence is a global social issue that affects both adults and children, with the latter being particularly vulnerable due to a lack of tools and knowledge to address it. This article presents a systematic review of the literature on school programs for children in elementary education aimed at the prevention and treatment of domestic gender-based violence. It was conducted through searches of scientific articles in four databases (Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library–Wiley Online Library, and Medline–PubMed) covering the treatment of gender-based violence in formal education schools over a 10-year period (2014–2024). Filters were applied to limit the search, duplicates were discarded, and records not meeting criteria based on title and abstract were excluded. After full-text screening, ten articles were selected, presenting eleven programs. The entire process adhered to PRISMA guidelines to ensure methodological rigor and transparency. The subsequent analysis includes the target age groups of the programs, methodologies used, content covered, and their impact. The conclusions drawn from the findings identified several key limitations, such as the small sample size of the study and the predominance of short-term evaluations; nevertheless, the results proved favorable, showing improvements in participants’ attitudes. This underscores the need to develop longitudinal studies that can provide a broader and more critical perspective and highlights the urgent need to advance research in the field of gender-based violence prevention from an early age.
