Motor gasoline and diesel fuel demands by agriculture in the United States

Abstract

This study sets out to determine how responsive the agricultural consumers of motor gasoline and diesel fuel are to changes in the relative prices of different types of energy. A demand model is specified and estimated. The conclusions suggest strongly not only that the unit price of motor gasoline demanded by agriculture, but that other types of energy are substitutes for motor gasoline and diesel fuel and that income and weather (measured by cooling degreedays and heating degree days) likewise affect motor gasoline and diesel fuel demands.
