Demografía de la juventud y derechos: los adolescentes en conflicto con la ley en el Brasil

Abstract

La Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño de 1989 representó una ruptura de paradigma al reconocer a los niños y adolescentes como sujetos portadores de derechos y garantías individuales. El Estatuto del Niño y del Adolescente (1990) adecuó las directivas de la convención al contexto brasileño. Este artículo se centra en el caso específico de los adolescentes en conflicto con la ley y contempla tres grandes ejes: 1) describe las características sociodemográficas de estos adolescentes; 2) trata de la intrincada relación entre Estado, familia y adolescentes en conflicto con la ley en el Brasil, teniendo en cuenta el rol de los programas sociales frente a la tarea de reinsertar en la sociedad a aquellos que estuvieron en conflicto con la ley, o evitar que otros figuren en esta categoría; 3) explora la relación entre demografía y los derechos de este grupo. ¿En qué puede contribuir la visión demográfica para lograr un avance en la cuestión de los derechos de los adolescentes en conflicto con la ley?
