Indígenas urbanos en América Latina: algunos resultados censales y su relación con los objetivos de desarrollo del milenio

Abstract

El proceso de urbanización ha alcanzado también a los pueblos indígenas de América Latina, dado que en la actualidad alrededor de un 40% reside en ciudades. Desde una perspectiva de derechos, y como insumo para las políticas públicas, en el presente artículo se examinan algunos aspectos de las condiciones de vida de los indígenas urbanos. Se pone énfasis en el tema de las desigualdades étnicas y territoriales, considerando los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio, a partir de la base de datos censales. En el documento se brinda un panorama regional de la distribución territorial de los pueblos indígenas para contextualizar el análisis.
