Efectos de la segregación urbana sobre la educación en Montevideo

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza los efectos de la segregación residencial en Montevideo sobre las diferencias en los aprendizajes de los escolares y examina la eficacia de las respuestas del sistema educativo para enfrentar las inequidades que generan estos procesos. Tras señalar los efectos de la familia, la escuela y el barrio sobre los aprendizajes, presenta modelos jerárquicos lineales que buscan aislar los efectos de cada uno de estos contextos. Resume los desafíos que plantean los resultados a los intentos de la educación uruguaya por disociar los logros de aprendizaje de los orígenes sociales y examina las respuestas de las autoridades del sector a esos desafíos. Por último, pasa revista a opciones de políticas para fortalecer el papel de la educación como ruta principal para la integración de las nuevas generaciones ante los nuevos problemas de segregación urbana.
