Die Sorgen der Bevölkerung über die Folgen der EU-Erweiterung

Abstract

Die Europäische Union (EU) befindet sich zurzeit in ihrer bisher größten Erweiterungsphase. Nachdem im Jahre 2004 bereits zehn vor allem mittel- und osteuropäische Länder der EU beigetreten sind, werden Bulgarien und Rumänien voraussichtlich 2007 folgen. Der Abschluss der Beitrittsverhandlungen mit beiden Ländern und die geplante Unterzeichnung der Beitrittsverträge am 25. April dieses Jahres werden in der Öffentlichkeit bereits von der Diskussion um den nächsten Beitrittskandidaten, die Türkei, überdeckt. Hinsichtlich der EU-Erweiterung zeichnet sich derzeit jedoch ein deutliches Vermittlungsproblem in der Bevölkerung ab: Die Zustimmung in Deutschland dazu hat in den vergangenen Jahren abgenommen; unter den Ländern der EU-15 hat Deutschland gegenwärtig mit nur noch 36 % eine der geringsten Zustimmungsquoten. Mithilfe der vom DIW Berlin zusammen mit Infratest Sozialforschung erhobenen Daten des Sozio-oekonomischen Panels (SOEP) kann gezeigt werden, dass die Sorgen der Bevölkerung über
