Energieträger Holz: Bestandsaufnahme und Perspektiven

Abstract

Holz wird zwar vorwiegend als Roh-, Bau- und Werkstoff eingesetzt, es kann aber auch über das heutige Maß hinaus für die Wärme- und Stromproduktion genutzt werden. Dabei kann die energetische Nutzung auf der einen Seite der stofflichen Verwertung nachgelagert sein, andererseits können aber auch die Holzreste energetisch verwerten, die bei der Waldpflege und Holzernte sowie bei der Holzbe- und -verarbeitung anfallen. Nur in wenigen Ausnahmefällen kommt es hierbei zur Konkurrenz zwischen stofflicher und energetischer Nutzung. Gleichzeitig trägt Holz zur Kohlenstoffbindung und zur Entlastung der CO2-Bilanz bei. Mit seinem verstärkten Einsatz könnten daher die klimaschutzpolitischen Bestrebungen von Bundesregierung und Europäischer Union zur Reduzierung der Treibhausgasemission unterstützt werden.
