Abstract

(VA)The question about the determinants of the capital structure has been largely studied in financial theory. In spite of the significant portion of companies located abroad, only a few studies deal with the influence of the internationalization degree on the debt ratio, especially in the context of emerging economies. From a sample composed of listed Chinese companies, from 2007 to 2011, the effect of internationalization is only apparent when the other determinants of the capital structure are also considered. Such observations result from the Chinese institutional specificities.
