Abstract

This article focuses on the configuration and the coordination of the value chain in international companies. The empirical study is based on a survey by questionnaire of 95 German automotive manufacturers and suppliers. The results show the choices made by these companies concerning the configuration and coordination of international activities. They indicate that German automotive companies have a preference for the location of activities in Western Europe and for the use of coordination mechanisms that rely on direct personal control.
