Abstract

Introduction: Educational research has moved from the dichotomy between qualitative and quantitative approaches towards their methodological combination. However, challenges persist in its effective application, such as epistemological coherence and training in integrated methods. This study analyzes the potential and limitations of the methodological combination in the production of knowledge in education. Methods: A documentary analysis was carried out based on the PRISMA protocol, reviewing indexed literature published. Theoretical and empirical studies were selected that addressed the methodological combination in educational contexts, prioritizing those that discussed their applicability and operational challenges. Results: The findings show a growing acceptance of the methodological combination in educational research, highlighting its ability to address the complexity of teaching and learning processes. However, obstacles are identified such as the lack of structured frameworks and the need for specialized training in mixed methods. Conclusions: The methodological combination in education allows a comprehensive understanding of educational phenomena, but its implementation requires clear criteria and rigorous training. The development of methodological strategies that strengthen their validity and applicability in educational research is recommended.
