Evaluation of the Implementation of Design Thinking Methodology in Citizenship Education Teaching: A Descriptive Study in the Ecuadorian Context

This article presents the results of implementing Design Thinking methodology in Citizenship Education teaching to enhance the understanding of democracy, human rights, and citizen participation concepts among high school students in an Ecuadorian educational institution. The research was structured around three specific objectives: designing analytical templates to assess student perception, analyzing the applicability of Design Thinking methodology, and creating a guide for teachers on its implementation. A descriptive design was used, employing qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups. Results show improved student understanding of key concepts and a high willingness to use more interactive methods in learning. The study concludes that Design Thinking methodology is a viable tool to renew citizenship education, recommending its implementation with adequate teacher support and educational resources.
