Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate whether the Design Thinking methodology can enhance the teaching of citizenship and rights among second-year high school students. The study was conducted with a cohort of 29 second-year students from Unidad Educativa Llano Chico in Quito, Ecuador. A survey was administered to gauge their perceptions of the impact of active methodologies, including the one under study, on their understanding of citizenship and rights. The findings revealed that while students are not familiar with this specific methodology, they do possess knowledge of other similar methodologies and strategies related to Design Thinking. In conclusion, the research suggests that the effectiveness of such methodologies is highly likely. It is recommended that further experimental research be conducted of collaborative practices, were key in improving linguistic competencies, especially in spelling and grammar, showing a significant improvement in student performance in these areas.
