Abstract

The labor market situation is becoming increasingly problematic for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Large-scale enterprises are especially placing a competitive pressure in male-dominated work areas such as technology or science where specialists and executive staff perceive SMEs to be a less attractive alternative. In addition, the role of men in society has changed. Men now attempt to combining work interests with being active fathers. A father-friendly staffing policy can create a competitive advantage for SMEs, and it can generate positive effects in terms of employer branding, job satisfaction, motivation, commitment, absenteeism, and turnover.
