Abstract

Trans-Abstract: Decarbonizing German industry requires numerous transformative measures that will have far-reaching impacts on working conditions. This paper examines the role of employees in the decarbonization process of German manufacturing firms and analyzes how the German concept of industrial relations, i.e. social partnership, through proven cooperative practices, can promote employee participation. It is argued that employees acquire explicit and implicit specific knowledge through their daily work processes, which can contribute to the development of decarbonization measures. The paper reflects the assessments of experts gathered through a Delphi study. The study found that targeted actions by social partnership actors can promote the use of this specific knowledge to develop measures for climate-neutral production processes and products.
