Assessing the Impact of Training and Development on Employee Performance and Productivity: A Case Study of Kansanshi Copper Mine in Zambia

Abstract

This study assessed how training and development influence employee performance and productivity at Kansanshi Copper Mine. A mixed qualitative and quantitative design was used. Primary data were collected using semi-structured questions and interviews with employees and key informants. Data were analyzed using SPSS, supported by secondary sources. Findings suggest that capacity building and skills enhancement support employee performance and productivity, but training initiatives face setbacks including lack of adequate resources, weak policies, resistance to change, and negative attitudes towards work. The study concludes that effective training and development safeguard organizational interests and improve productivity, though stronger institutional support is required.
