Abstract

This study investigates the effects of cashless policies on the operations of market women in Akpan Andem Market, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. For the objectives of this study to be achieved, two hypotheses were formulated and tested. A survey research design was utilized. A sample of 400 respondents was selected using a stratified random sampling technique. Regression analysis was employed to test the hypotheses. The results of the regression analysis revealed a positive and statistically significant effect of cashless policies on the operations of market women. Based on the findings, the study recommends providing practical financial literacy and digital payment awareness programmes tailored to market women. It further recommends improving access to affordable digital devices and reliable internet services to remove adoption barriers, while continuous training and accessible technical support should be provided to build confidence in the use of cashless payment technologies. In addition, transparent communication regarding transaction security is essential for strengthening trust in digital payment systems. The study concludes that continued research into the facilitators and barriers to cashless payment adoption will help policymakers and stakeholders design context-specific interventions that promote successful financial inclusion among market women.
