Model CT4.0 Unplugged for rural teachers

Abstract

In the context of the 4.0 revolution, computational thinking (CT) is an essential skill for solving problems in various fields, so it is not exclusive to the use of computers or electronic devices. The general objective of the research was to propose a training model for the development of CT, as a competency of the 4.0 Revolution, aimed at teachers of rural educational institutions in Magdalena, Colombia. It was developed from the quantitative approach; it is of a projective type, with a non-experimental, field design, in which a sample of 35 teachers from rural educational institutions in the department of Magdalena, Colombia participated. The results reveal that teachers have a moderately present level of TC skills, with difficulties in the consistent application of concepts such as abstraction, decomposition, pattern recognition, algorithm design, and evaluation. Analyses by challenge show that teachers need to strengthen their ability to break down problems, create logical sequences, and critically analyze solutions. Based on these results, a training model called “Unplugged CT 4.0 Model for Rural Teachers” is proposed, which seeks to develop these skills through a practical and contextualized approach, including introduction to IR4.0, unplugged programming, contextualized problem solving, and evaluation. This model seeks to train teachers to integrate TC into their teaching practices, addressing the specific needs of the rural context and enhancing student learning.
