El efecto Harrod Balassa Samuelson y el papel de la demanda: evidencia internacional de datos de panel

Abstract

El estudio analiza de manera conjunta el impacto de la productividad laboral y de factores de demanda en la determinaci—n del tipo de cambio real. Para ello, se toma como punto de partida la formalizaci—n del efecto Harrod-Balassa-Samuelson (HBS), y los factores de demanda se analizan desde el punto de vista del gasto de gobierno y el ingreso per c‡pita. El an‡lisis emp’rico se lleva a cabo para el periodo 1970-2010 a travŽs de modelos de regresi—n de datos de panel de efectos fijos y Modelo Generalizado de Momentos (GMM) para una muestra de 40 de pa’ses provenientes de diferentes regiones. Los resultados aportan evidencia a favor del efecto HBS y de la importancia de los factores de demanda en la determinaci—n del tipo de cambio real. Los resultados tienen importantes implicaciones de pol’tica para ayudar a los pa’ses a mejorar la competitividad.
