Historia del ferrocarril de Narino

Abstract

Los habitantes del suroccidente colombiano, hoy departamento de Narino, desde la Colonia hasta las primeras décadas del siglo XX carecieron de vías adecuadas de comunicación para unir la zona Andina con el océano Pacíco, lo que generaba enormes dicultades en sus desplazamientos y en las actividades comerciales. Desde 1860, dirigentes locales y la población le reclamaron al gobierno nacional la construcción de un sistema férreo. Finalmente, al concluir el ano 1924 se inició la obra que sorteó numerosas dicultades. En 1944 ese proyecto llegó a su n: la crisis económica de 1929, el desinterés del Estado y el boom automotor frenaron esa iniciativa. El ferrocarril de Narino eran kilómetros que iniciaban en El Diviso, estación en la selva y concluían en el puerto de Tumaco. A pesar de sus problemas, la unión de la línea férrea y de la carretera entre El Diviso y Túquerres permitió obtener unas vías que agilizaron la comunicación de las poblaciones del interior con el mar. Esta investigación aborda la historia de los emprendimientos locales para obtener un sistema férreo y las complejidades en la construcción de ese tramo. Además, es un aporte para la historia de las vías de comunicación del departamento en referencia.
