Abstract

“Como Venezuela, Ecuador es un importante socio natural de Colombia en el comercio internacional y en muchas otras áreas económicas. En proporción a su Producto Interno Bruto las relaciones económicas colombo-ecuatorianas fueron, hasta hace poco, más intensas que las colombo-venezolanas, y hoy incluyen inversión directa colombiana en unas 300 empresas ecuatorianas. Para algunos sectores industriales, como azúcar, fibras textiles, papel y vidrio, el mercado ecuatoriano es bastante importante para Colombia y muy atractivo por su cerca nía y las preferencias arancelarias. Por otra parte, desde Ecuador se efectúan importaciones de maíz, alimentos procesados (aceites, conservas de pescado), confecciones y algunos vehículos en 1993. La creación de la zona de libre comercio del Grupo Andino, formalizada a partir del 1 de octubre de 1992, promete intensificar todavía más esas relaciones comerciales. El comercio colombo-ecuatoriano alcanzó US$2 15 millones en 1992, y según declaraciones del Presidente Gaviria, efectuadas en febrero de este ano.”
