La renta de tabaco en la Nueva Granada, 1744-1850. Administraci贸n, comercio y monopolio

Abstract

Este art铆culo se refiere a la administraci贸n de la renta del tabaco en Nueva Granada, sus cambios y permanencias, a partir de tres etapas fundamentales: antecedentes mediante arrendamiento (1744-1774), administraci贸n directa (1774-1810) y el fin del monopolio en la Rep煤blica (1821-1850). Para el estudio se recurri贸 al an谩lisis de las instrucciones formuladas por Manuel Guirior, Manuel Antonio Fl贸rez, Juan Francisco Guti茅rrez de Pineres y la legislaci贸n de la Rep煤blica de Colombia. Al analizar la administraci贸n de la renta de tabaco se determin贸 que, a pesar de la legislaci贸n pol铆tica de la primera experiencia de la naci贸n colombiana, las firmas privadas se encargaron de monopolizar el cultivo, producci贸n y comercializaci贸n de la hoja desde antes de la supresi贸n del monopolio, debido a la alta rentabilidad del producto en los mercados exteriores.
