Supervisión y regulación del sistema financiero: modelos, implicaciones y alcances

Abstract

Resumen: en este artículo se realiza una revisión de los modelos de supervisión frecuentemente usados y las características que estos deben cumplir para alcanzar niveles óptimos de supervisión. Adicionalmente, se revisan las ventajas que surgen al involucrar al banco central en el proceso de supervisión. Se realiza un ejercicio empírico para distintos países para los anos comprendidos entre 1980 y 1997 y se encuentra que la probabilidad de crisis aumenta ante la presencia de altas tasas de inflación y se reduce en presencia de mayores niveles de libertad bancaria. Adicionalmente, los ejercicios muestran que el poder de supervisión mejora cuando el banco central cumple un rol como supervisor
