Croissance endogene et reduction de la pauvrete

Abstract

Sur la base d’etudes empiriques recentes, en particulier sur l’Inde, cet article met en avant l’idee que la croissance economique est un facteur essentiel de reduction de la pauvrete, malgre le fait qu’une plus grande croissance de la productivite s’accompagne d’une augmentation des inegalites entres menages, entreprises, et regions. Partant de cette observation, nous montrons en quoi les nouvelles theories de la croissance permettent de mieux comprendre l’histoire recente des pays en developpement, en meme temps qu’elles suggerent de nouvelles politiques pour augmenter la croissance de la productivite et reduire la pauvrete. Nous concluons cet essai en discutant brievement pourquoi les economies latino-americaines n’ont pas ete a meme d’augmenter la croissance et de reduire la pauvrete a la difference des economies asiatiques qui pourtant se situaient au meme niveau developpement qu’elles dans les annees soixante.
