Abstract

It is undeniable that both associated labour co-operatives (and comparable organizations) and labour-managed firms have a qualified place in the field of social economy organizations. This paper is based on a legal and labour perspective and centres on three interconnected axes. The first axis aims to outline these firms and summarise the assumed virtues and possible shortcomings of this modality of employment. The second axis attempts to reveal the true roles played by theseassociated labour forms in the Spanish economic system. Lastly, the paper points out some of the legal problems arising from the practical development of these tertiary sector firms, from a labour law standpoint, in the light of their real market efficiency.
