Materialengpässe als makroökonomische Schocks: Evidenz aus den ifo Konjunkturumfragen

Abstract

Störungen globaler Lieferketten belasten Unternehmen und hinterlassen oftmals gesamtwirtschaftliche Spuren. Anhand der monatlichen Unternehmensbefragungen des ifo Instituts im Verarbeitenden Gewerbe können unerwartete Materialengpässe identifiziert werden: Unternehmen, die unerwartet mit Materialknappheit konfrontiert werden, zeigen charakteristische Abweichungen zwischen ihren Preis- und Produktionserwartungen und den tatsächlichen Entwicklungen. Aus diesen Informationen kann eine vierteljährliche Schockreihe erstellt und in ein Zeitreihenmodell integriert werden. Ein unerwarteter Anstieg von Materialengpässen senkt die Industrieproduktion unmittelbar um 2,4 %. Der Preisauftrieb hält deutlich länger an: Noch zwei Jahre nach dem Schock steigen die Verbraucherpreise spürbar.
