Wie Personalmangel in Krankenhäusern Leben kostet

Abstract

Der zunehmende Mangel an Pflegefachkräften stellt eine zentrale Herausforderung für das deutsche Gesundheitswesen dar. Nach Angaben des Deutschen Pflegerats fehlen bereits jetzt rund 17.600 examinierte Fachkräfte in der Gesundheits- und Krankenpflege – ein Trend, der sich in den kommenden Jahren weiter verschärfen dürfte. Doch welche Folgen hat der Pflegekräftemangel in Krankenhäusern für die Leistungsfähigkeit des Gesundheitssystems und letztlich für die Gesundheit der Bevölkerung? Am Beispiel der Abwanderung von Krankenpfleger*innen aus deutschen Krankenhäusern in die Schweiz aufgrund der wachsenden Attraktivität des Schweizer Frankens legt dieser Artikel dar, welche Auswirkungen dies auf Qualität und Quantität der Behandlung sowie auf die Sterblichkeit der Patient*innen hat.
