Regionale Einkommensungleichheit in Deutschland

Abstract

Anhand von administrativen Steuerdaten betrachten wir für die Jahre 1998–2016 regionale Einkommensungleichheit auf Ebene der Bundesländer, Kreise und Gemeinden. Städtische Gemeinden und Gemeinden in Westdeutschland haben zwar durchschnittlich hohe Einkommen, weisen aber auch die stärkste Ungleichverteilung der Bruttoeinkommen auf. Betrachtet man den Anstieg der Ungleichheit in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten, so zeigt sich, dass dieser Anstieg ausschließlich auf die wachsende Ungleichheit innerhalb der Gemeinden zurückzuführen ist. Insgesamt sind Einkommensunterschiede zwischen verschiedenen Regionen Deutschlands gering im Vergleich zu den Einkommensunterschieden innerhalb dieser Regionen.
