Wirtschaftliche Effekte langfristigen Klimawandels: Lehren aus der Kleinen Eiszeit

Abstract

Historische Daten über die Bevölkerungszahlen und Durchschnittstemperaturen von 2 120 europäischen Städten in den Jahren 1600 bis 1850 zeigen, dass während der Kleinen Eiszeit (1400–1900) die Temperaturen in weiten Teilen Europas sanken. Es kam vielerorts zu Ernteausfällen. Die Temperaturveränderung beeinflusste die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung durch ihre Wirkung auf landwirtschaftliche Produktivität und Sterblichkeit. Die Städte hatten aber die Möglichkeit, sich an die Veränderungen anzupassen und so negative Folgen abzuschwächen. Städte, die Teil von großen Handelsnetzwerken waren, waren kaum von den negativen Effekten der Temperaturveränderungen betroffen.
