Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic meant that, with the exception of a few months, trade fair venues in Germany were at a standstill between March 2020 and the end of June 2021. To enable exhibitors to maintain contact with their customers, trade fair organizers developed a wide range of substitute digital formats. However, the ifo Business Survey for August shows that on-site trade fairs continue to be of central importance for exhibitors. However, the vast majority of in-person trade fairs will be supplemented by virtual event formats.
