The Future of the EU: Strengthening Resilience, Deepening Economic Integration, Providing European Public Goods

Abstract

Europe should develop plans for more effective crisis management for future pandemics. Mobility restrictions across national borders and health policy measures should be better coordinated, for example to share existing hospital capacity. To adequately represent European interests at the global level, Europe should pursue an independent geopolitical and geoeconomic strategy. In addition, the EU should advance economic integration, in particular by removing obstacles to cross-border economic activity, and develop stronger activities in the area of providing Europe-wide public goods.
