ifo Economic Survey October 2018 in Brief: Global Uncertainties Curb German Economy

Abstract

The ifo Business Climate Index fell in October. Companies were less satisfied with their current business situation. Optimism about the months ahead also waned. Global uncertainties are curbing the German economy. The mood in the German export economy has suffered a significant setback. Export expectations in manufacturing deteriorated in October. Sentiment weakened in the mechanical engineering, metal and food industries.
