Abstract

A EU-US free trade agreement is long overdue. At the beginning of February 2013 the US-EU High Level Group on Growth and Jobs is very likely to recommend the start-up of negotiations. Stormy-Annika Mildner, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), and Claudia Schmucker, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP), see pending agricultural disputes as potential obstacles to an agreement. If the EU wants to reach a Trans-Atlantic agreement, it will have to show a greater willingness to compromise than it has done in the past in the case of some of these disputes.
