Abstract

The Ifo Business Climate for German industry and trade improved in June for the first time since February. The firms gave clearly more positive assessments of their current business situation than in May. Although their business expectations are again somewhat less optimistic, the firms remain confident. The German economy is experiencing a robust upswing. The Ifo Employment Barometer for German industry and trade fell further in June. Although firms are still increasing the numbers of their employees, this expansion could slow somewhat in the coming months. The firms in manufacturing plan to increase the number of their staff somewhat more cautiously than hitherto. On the whole, the firms assessed their personnel stocks as too small.
