Automotive industry: Strong growth and a favourable outlook

Author

Listed:
  • Reinhard Hild

Abstract

The German automotive industry achieved a turnover of 317 billion euros in 2010. This corresponds to a nominal increase of 20.5% vis-à-vis the previous year and to an increase in real turnover volume of 21.1%. With this above-average growth the automobile sector expanded its position as Germany's largest industrial group in terms of turnover. Its share in the total manufacturing industry rose to 21.6% (2009: 20.6%). For 2011 a continuation of this growth trend is expected. In total the real turnover increase of the German automotive industry might well amount to 10%.
