Abstract

Everywhere in the world, banks are willing to grant loans for the acquisition or the building of houses and for the purchase of building sites. However, not all countries have special legislation that helps the banks to refinance such loans by the issuing of legally defined mortgage bonds. Here, an overview of the legal basis in European countries and the US is provided.
