Electrical industry: The upswing has been delayed

Author

Abstract

The demand weakness which also hit the electrical industry in 2001 continued in 2002. In the first eight months domestic and foreign orders fell along with production and sales in the electrical industry. With regard to the business outlook, no lasting improvement is yet in sight. Real production of the electrical industry in 2002 will decrease by around 4%, with the decline for capital goods (-4%) being stronger than for consumer goods (-3%). The enterprises are setting their hopes on 2003. Then, domestic investment activity in particular will improve again, consumer spending should increase, and the exports of this traditionally export-oriented industry will be stimulated.
