World economy has clearly weakened - outlook less pessimistic

Abstract

According to the results of the 72nd Economic Survey International (ESI), the downward trend in the world economy that began in Spring 2000 continued in Spring 2001. Since its peak in April 2000, the indicator has lost about a quarter of its value. The recent decline in the indicator is solely attributable to a less favourable assessment of the present economic situation, whereas the six-month economic expectations have brightened somewhat. This constellation points to a bottoming-out in the course of the second half of the year.
