Economic conclusions from the country comparison of telecommunications regulation models

Author

Listed:
  • Hans Schedl

Abstract

The country comparison showed that the introduction and stimulation of competition has led to considerable welfare gains in individual market segments: long-distance traffic and international traffic. It also emerged that sector-specific regulations tend to produce higher welfare gains and that state regulation efforts should be kept as lean as possible by incorporating external knowledge and by using simplified procedures
