Outlook for construction activity in west Germany: Only a moderate trend-path increase

Abstract

In west Germany, construction output - measured in terms of construction volume - has declined since 1995. According to the forecasts of the latest edition of the "Ifo Construction Forecast for West Germany: 1999-2009" the decline in construction activity will give way to moderate growth starting with 2000. On the whole, the construction sector will still dampen overall growth in west Germany, but with a trend-path increase in aggregated construction volume from 1998 to 2009 of more than DM 12 billion, it will again make a positive contribution.
