Abstract

Die österreichische Wirtschaft hat sich im westeuropäischen Vergleich wieder deutlich verbessert. Das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) erhöhte sich um rund 3,25%. Da das Arbeitskräfteangebot erheblich zunahm, blieb die Arbeitslosenquote mit ca. 4,5% nahezu unverändert. 1999 dürfte die Wirtschaft zunächst nur langsam wachsen. Mit einem Anstieg des realen BIP von knapp 2,25% bleibt die Entwicklung aber etwas günstiger als im westeuropäischen Durchschnitt. Im Jahr 2000 setzt sich die 1999 begonnene allmähliche konjunkturelle Erholung fort. Für das reale BIP kann mit einem Wachstum von knapp 2,75% gerechnet werden. Die Arbeitslosenquote dürfte im Jahresdurchschnitt wieder etwa 4,5% betragen.
