Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der europäischen Wirtschaft : wenig Fortschritte in den neunziger Jahren

Das ifo Institut hat im Auftrag der Europäischen Kommission zusammen mit anderen europäischen Forschungsinstituten die Wettbewerbsposition Europas in der Triade untersucht. Eine Region gilt dann als wettbewerbsfähig, wenn ihre Bevölkerung nachhaltig einen hohen Lebensstandard erwirtschaften und einen hohen Beschäftigungsstand erzielen kann. Gemessen am Pro-Kopf-Einkommen bleibt der Lebensstandard in den 15 EU-Mitgliedstaaten immer noch deutlich hinter dem der USA und Japans zurück. Europa schneidet besser ab, wenn berücksichtigt wird, daß die Erwerbstätigen mehr Freizeit haben und Europa umweltverträglicher wirtschaften dürfte.
