Thailand und Malaysia : Erfolgschancen zweier unterschiedlicher Wege aus der Krise

Abstract

Der Tiefpunkt der Asienkrise scheint zwar überwunden, es ist jedoch noch nicht abzusehen, wie schnell sich die Tigerstaaten von den Folgen erholen werden. Thailand und Malaysia, deren Wirtschaftsleistung 1998 deutlich gesunken ist, haben unterschiedliche Strategien gewählt, um wieder Anschluß an die ökonomischen Erfolge früherer Jahre zu finden. Während sich Thailand an die Vorgaben des IWF hält, versucht Malaysia, das erst sehr spät von der Krise erfaßt wurde, sich durch Kapitalverkehrskontrollen von den ungünstigen Entwicklungen abzuschotten.
