Abstract

Der Artikel thematisiert den Zustand der U.S.-amerikanischen Wirtschaft im Jahre 1997 und im ersten Halbjahr 1998 unter dem Gesichtspunkt der positiven Eigendynamik und der dahinterstehenden wirtschaftstheoretischen Eckdaten. Im Jahre 1997 profitierte die amerikanische Wirtschaft von der sehr dynamischen Binnennachfrage. Das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt stieg um 3,5%. Die Arbeitslosenquote sank auf 5% im Jahresdurchschnitt. Der Anstieg der Verbraucherpreise erfolgt verlangsamt und der Bundeshaushalt rechnet im Jahr 1998 mit einem Überschuß von 63 Mrd.$. Als Folge der Asienkrise sinken jedoch die Außenhandelsbilanzen. Trotzdem dürfte das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt im Jahre 1998 um etwa 3,25% wachsen und bei einer erneuten weichen Landung können im nächsten Jahr 2,25% erzielt werden.
