Abstract

Der vorliegende Artikel gibt einen Überblick über die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung Schwedens im Jahr 1998 und prognostiziert die konjunkturelle Entwicklung für die beiden folgenden Wirtschaftsjahre. 1997 stieg das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt in Schweden um fast 2%. Das war nicht genug, um die Arbeitslosenquote unter die rund 8% von 1996 sinken zu lassen. 1998 setzt sich die konjunkturelle Aufwärtsentwicklung fort, beschleunigen dürfte sie sich allerdings nicht. Für das reale BIP ist mit einem Anstieg um knapp 2,5% zu rechnen. Die Arbeitslosenquote könnte auf gut 7,5% zurückgehen. 1999 dürfte das reale BIP um ca. 2% wachsen. Die Lage auf dem Arbeitsmarkt bessert sich kaum noch. Wirtschaftspolitisch hatte die Erfüllung der Maastricht-Kriterien während der vergangenen Jahre Priorität. Obwohl vier Referenzwerte - teilweise sehr gut - erreicht werden und das fünfte Kriterium per Interpretation als erfüllt bezeichnet werden könnte, hat der schwedische Reichstag bereits Ende 1997 beschlossen, daß Schweden der EWU Anfang 1999 nicht beitreten soll.
