Weltwirtschaft: Experten erwarten keine weltweite Ausbreitung der asiatischen Grippe

Abstract

Im ersten Quartal 1998 sind die Aussichten für das weltwirtschaftliche Wachstum weiterhin gut. Die Ergebnisse der KTI-Januarumfrage signalisieren ein freundliches, wenn auch leicht abgekühltes Weltwirtschaftsklima. Die Finanzkrise in Südostasien hat die Aussichten in der Region empfindlich getrübt. In Westeuropa ist das Klima nach wie vor günstig, wenngleich die Befragten die Zukunft nicht mehr ganz so günstig einschätzen. Die US-Wirtschaft dürfte im nächsten halben Jahr eine heilsame Dämpfung des Wachstums erfahren. Das US-Außenhandelsdefizit wird weiterhin zunehmen. Ein nachhaltiges Übergreifen der Asienkrise auf die aufstrebenden Märkte in Lateinamerika und Osteuropa halten die Experten für unwahrscheinlich. Die Rahmenbedingungen auf den nicht-asiatischen Finanzmärkten bleiben günstig: Ein starker Anstieg der kurzfristigen Zinsen wird in der nahen Zukunft nicht erwartet. Der US-Dollar bleibt stark.
