Macau vor der Wiedervereinigung mit China : Ende der ältesten europäischen Kolonie in Fernost - und Neubeginn

Abstract

Ziemlich genau in zwei Jahren - am 20. Dezember 1999 - wird Portugal seine frühere Kolonie Macau an China zurückgeben: ein Land von 9,6 Millionen qkm mit 1,2 Milliarden Menschen gewinnt 21 qkm mit 500 Tausend Einwohnern hinzu. Macau ist zwar wesentlich kleiner als Hongkong, es besitzt jedoch einerseits als "Kasino Asiens" und "Hort der Triaden" sowie andererseits als "Brücke zu Europa" und attraktiver Hightech-Standort mit der Sonderwirtschaftszone Zhuhai als Hinterland eine Sonderstellung. Und auch in den kommenden 50 Jahren wird es eine nicht zu unterschätzende Rolle im Rahmen von "Großchina" und der asiatischen Außenbeziehungen spielen.
